My Weight Loss Journey: The Big 4-0

I hit a milestone – I lost 40 pounds in 4 months.

Nothing fits. What I mean is that I am down 5 sizes – really> I had to start shopping for new clothes.  It’s a good problem!

This situation has me examining style choices as a method for redefining my outward appearance. Should I be edgier? More tailored? Hipper? I do want to be age appropriate and not look like my daughter and her friends.

I found a picture of my Mom at my age. She decided to stop coloring her hair at 50. Her style was the epitome of comfortable classic styles.  Times have changed and unlike my beloved mother, Ms. Clairol and I will remain on good terms for years to come. Confession? I started to go gray in my mid-30’s and am fully gray now.

Lots of changes this year that have me examining the next direction my life should take. My Mom left us this year – but in the last months of her life she was supportive of the weight loss journey I was on and shared her fears for the heart problems that plague our family. She was comforted by my choice to break bad habits.

Mom always commented on my clothes – an shared my excitement when I wore something new. I am funding my new wardrobe by selling off the clothes that no longer fit. And sometimes fitting into a favorite I saved, like the gown in the picture to the left.  Mom was at the event where I first wore this in 2007.

I am committed to the weight loss. No more storing numbers of sizes just in case I need them.I am not going back – I am moving forward into a newer, healthier me.

And if feels right.
