About SYMPHONY OF ME
“Symphony: something that in its harmonious complexity or variety suggests an interweaving composition.”
I am me, M.E., Mary Ellen, Emmi – daughter, sister, mother, friend, very young and un-grandmotherly grandmother.
I am many parts – and like an orchestra, most parts are playing simultaneously in concert with each other. Sometimes, one role with be featured over another – but always, I am all these things at once.
As a Daughter – I spent time with aging parents. Like many of you, I took on the role of caretaker, health advocate, and holder of multiple streams of information. For 5 years, I helped other families navigate these waters, never knowing that the training I received to do my job would serve our family’s needs too. I speak of our struggles and honor the life of my Mom who died in July of 2017.
Sister – My brother Bill is 2 years younger than me and when our Mom remarried in 2002, we welcomed 4 step brothers and one step sister into our lives. I never knew I wanted a big family, but I’m glad to be part of one now. Special thanks to Bill, who worked with me as I picked out this title during long phone conversations.
Mother – I have two sons and a daughter who are the loves of my life. Ryan & Kristen and Brett & Lauren live about a one hour drive away, but it takes 2 plane connections to get to my daughter Kelly in Ecuador.
Friend – friendship is the glue that holds me together. Linda and I have been friends since age 6 and I treasure all the supportive friends in my life.
Grandmother – I have 4 little angels – Korie, Joey Jackson and Reagan.
what will you find here?
In keeping with the symphony of me theme – posts will expound on the melody of life to the tune of laughter. The rhapsody of romance will be a focus, along with it’s evil twin the discordant dissonance of delusion. I will write about dating over 50, living in the sandwich generation and lifestyle posts. Expect to see praise about the wonders of Frederick, Maryland, my beloved hometown. I plan to share what I observe, lessons we all learn and ways to find balance, even when life is dissonant.
I started this blog because I needed a creative outlet – and I don’t have hobbies like making small batch kombucha. ( I saw a sign offering this when I was out at a yard sale – and it just struck me as amusing.) I was a freelance writer for a decade and most of those outlets went out of business, so here I am – a blogger.
